When we set out to compile a list of our favorite stoner movies to watch on 4/20 and beyond, we were amazed at how many were out there! Due to the number of awesome stoner movies available, this list is in no way inclusive, but here’s a quick rundown of some favorites for your viewing pleasure (cannabis optional). If your favorites were missed, don’t worry - we might just do another list at a later date. (Psst... we checked, and all of these are available to rent on Amazon!)
Since this year marks its 10th anniversary, we thought it’d be fitting to start with this little gem. This early Judd Apatow film starring Seth Rogen and consisting of drugs, murder, and laughs has been a favorite of weed fans since day one.
If you’ve never seen this movie, then you need to hunt it down right… meow. Since the long-awaited sequel is coming out right on 4/20, now is a great time to refresh your memory on this timeless classic that mixes law enforcement, drugs, maple syrup, and mustache rides.
The Big Lebowski
What do you get when thugs pee on The Dude’s favorite rug that really tied the room together? You get, hands down, one of the best Coen brothers movies in existence. RIP Donny - you were a good bowler, but you were out of your element.
Up in Smoke
If you want to see the point at which marijuana usage became prevalent in film, this Cheech and Chong classic will give you a little insight into the fringes of the culture. This began a long, haze-filled series of movies starring the baked duo, and audiences ate those films up, too.
Dazed and Confused
Is there a lesson to be learned that so many of the movies on our list have also charmed critics? No offense to the stoner movies that came before it, but this coming-of-age film by esteemed director Richard Linklater is the movie that started it all as far as many people are concerned.
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
Never before has a burger joint looked so appetizing on screen. Initially dismissed as the “movie where Doogie is a bit of an a-hole,” this comedy gem’s simple plot will make your mouth water for those yummy little pieces of heaven.
Kevin Smith has made a career out of his signature wit and takes on pop culture - and this is the movie that started it all! Clerks had such a huge box office return compared to its minuscule budget (just over $25k) that it affected the way future small budget movies were marketed to the masses.
Darn! That’s a lot of movies. We don’t expect you to get through all these in a single day or even a whole weekend, but if you can squeeze in a few during your downtime, then more power to you. But, don’t forget - while the experts here at Vaprwear support your efforts for rest and relaxation, we also believe in staying active - and if you’d like to learn how to enjoy the outdoors in style, be sure to check out our awesome line of products.
