The best thing about January? There are still about two months to take part in winter activities! Of course, to take full advantage of the snowy weather, you’re going to need to stock up on some great winter gear. There's no time like the present to outfit yourself to conquer the cold or upgrade your current setup! Our go-to list looks like this:
With a couple months of winter under our belts, it might be time for a clothing upgrade. Ditch the less-than-awesome apparel at the bottom of your drawer for tech apparel that will keep you warm - and keep up with your lifestyle. Did you know that wool is so great because when wet it keeps it temperature? Once cotton is wet it begins to cool leaving you chilly and open to hypothermia. We might be gear geeks, but you will thank us when you check out Smartwool socks for your winter boots or skis: https://www.smartwool.com/mens.html.
Snowshoes have evolved by leaps and bounds in recent years, offering comfort and maneuverability like never before. If you haven't tried out this addicting winter sport yet, get after it. This list of the best snowshoes on the market is a winner: https://www.outsidepursuits.com/best-snowshoes/ Our team likes the MSR Evo. Keeps you above the snow and on the move. Find out for yourself on your next adventure!
Who knows more about skiing and snowboarding than Coloradans? No one. Our favorite gear comes from our local brethren. This list of the top Colorado gear companies for snow sports is not messing around: https://303magazine.com/2016/02/best-7-colorado-ski-and-snow-companies-to-know-about/ Our personal fave, SubQ, is some of the best gear around. Their military inspired gear is our jam. Oh yeah, they won the 2016 Outside Magazine Gear of the Show Award at Outdoor Retailer.
Ski & Snowboard Racks
Traveling with equipment needed for winter activities is a lot easier when you have something to help you haul it around. For skis and snowboards, the best thing to have is a rack that attaches to the top of your vehicle. Hard to believe that anyone is Colorado doesn’t already have a rack on their car. Getting the right one can be complicated though. Check out REI’s website with the complete list of things to consider before purchasing a roof rack: https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/car-racks.html
Snacks and Drinks
You don’t want to head out into the snow without sustenance. Keeping up your energy, even if you’re simply walking around in the snow, is an absolute must. Energy drinks and foods with a high fat content will keep you going for the long haul. Look for minimally processed items with little or no added sugar - they'll keep you going longer without a sugar crash later. Duffle Bag and/or Backpack
Since you’re going to be carrying around so much stuff, you’ll need something to put it all into. Duffle bags and backpacks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so you’ll want to take your time and choose one that works for you and best fits your needs. If you're constantly fighting with that one zipper or losing things through the hole in the bottom of your bag, it's upgrade time. Not to toot our own horn, but our Hydro-Vape Backpack is built for winter adventure. To prevent freezing, we routed the hydration hose inside the shoulder strap and tucked away the mouthpiece inside the TechChamber. Add in instant access to vaping, and you’re set to hydrate and elevate. Bam. You can snag one here: https://vaprwear.com/collections/shop-packs
