Cannabidiol oil, or CBD, is one of many cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. The most well-known of these oils was, until recently, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. But recently, CBD has gotten more attention. Why? CBD oil derived from hemp contains no psychoactive properties and is being used therapeutically to treat or remediate a whole host of health concerns including anxiety, sleep disorders, epilepsy and inflammation.

      Understanding Types

There are two sources of CBD oil:

Industrial hemp-derived (Cannabis ruderalis): contains negligible (or no) amounts of THC
Medical-marijuana-derived (Cannabis sativa or indica): may contain varied levels of THC or no THC at all, depending on the intended ratio of CBD to THC

Marijuana-derived CBD oil can only be purchased in a dispensary in states that have legalized marijuana for medical and/or recreational use. CBD oil derived from hemp, on the other hand, can be purchased by anyone 18+ since it contains 0.03% or less of THC. Depending on the state’s marijuana legalization status, patients and users can decide between hemp-derived or marijuana-derived CBD oil products.

      Abate Your Anxiety

CBD oil can be used to help people reduce behaviors associated with social anxiety, PTSD, OCD, panic disorder, general anxiety disorder, and others. Those suffering from such disorders are often advised to avoid THC products, as THC products can amplify anxiety or paranoia, but since CBD oil is a whole different ball game. Since it does not necessarily contain any psychoactive properties (when THC is removed) and can be used therapeutically, CBD oil has reportedly brought relief to those suffering from these life-altering conditions.

      Chase Your Inflammation Away

CBD oil can help reduce chronic pain and inflammation. Again, since CBD oil contains no psychoactive properties, many see CBD as a more natural way to deal with chronic pain - without medication-related side effects. Marijuana-derived CBD oil can also pack a 1-2 punch of CBD and THC, which some patients prefer in their pain management.

      Cease Your Smoking Habit

CBD aficionados have used the oil to quit smoking or reduce behaviors, like anxiety and paranoia, that lead them to crave more cigarettes.

      Cancer Enemy

While research is still very limited, studies have shown that combining CBD with cancer treatments can help stop the spread of cancer cells in the body.

      Treatment for Epilepsy

Perhaps the most well-known therapeutic use of CBD oil is as a treatment for epilepsy. Studies show that CBD oil has anti-seizure properties, and, best of all, has a very low risk of side effects.

Among the above, CBD oil has also been shown to help those suffering from acne, Alzheimer’s disease, Type 1 diabetes, glaucoma, sleep disorders, schizophrenia, and drug withdrawals. We encourage you to research the use and effects of CBD oil before beginning any CBD treatment.

CBD oil is legal for medical and recreational use in certain states, depending on its origin (derived from hemp or marijuana). You can find a list of these states and their laws concerning the use and production of CBD oil here.

      How to Use

CBD can be vaped, mixed into food or drinks, taken in capsule form, rubbed onto the skin as a lotion or paste, or used in a spray or sublingual form. Of course, we recommend following the directions as supplied by the manufacturer.

Popularity of CBD is surging, despite a general confusion behind the buzz.
